Frequently Asked Questions2026-05-03T19:18:30+00:00

You have questions. That's exactly where healing begins. We've answered the most common ones here — and we're always happy to talk through anything else before you take the next step.

GETTING STARTED

How do I know if therapy is right for me?2026-05-03T00:03:13+00:00

Therapy isn't only for crisis moments — it's for anyone who wants to understand themselves more deeply, break recurring patterns, navigate a life transition, or simply feel more grounded. If you've been carrying something that feels too heavy to sort through alone, that's reason enough.

At WCCW, we work with adults who are ready to look honestly at their lives and do something meaningful about what they find. You don't need to have it all figured out before reaching out — that's what we're here for.

Do you offer a free consultation before I commit?2026-05-03T00:04:19+00:00

Yes. We offer a complimentary 15-minute phone consultation so you can get a sense of our approach, ask any questions you have, and decide whether WCCW feels like the right fit — before scheduling your first session.

There's no pressure and no obligation. It's simply a chance to connect and see if we're a good match.
Who do you work with?2026-05-03T00:05:11+00:00

We work with adults (18+) seeking individual therapy and couples. Our clients come from all walks of life — what they tend to have in common is a genuine desire for lasting change, not just symptom relief.

We work with people navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship challenges, life transitions, identity questions, grief, and more. If you're unsure whether your concern fits what we do, just reach out — we're happy to talk it through.

What happens at my first appointment?2026-05-03T00:06:06+00:00

Your first session is an intake — a chance for your therapist to get to know you, understand what's brought you in, and begin to get a sense of your history, patterns, and goals. You'll also have plenty of space to ask questions and get a feel for the relationship.

You won't be expected to share everything at once. The pace is yours to set. Most people leave their first session feeling a sense of relief just from having been heard clearly.

Do you accept insurance?2026-05-03T00:06:55+00:00

We accept some insurance plans as well as private pay. We encourage you to contact us directly to confirm whether your specific plan is accepted, as coverage varies.

If you're paying out of pocket, we're happy to discuss fees and options during your free consultation. We believe quality care should be accessible — reach out and let's talk about what works for you.

What is a thoughtful, self-aware adult?2026-05-04T20:42:22+00:00

We use this phrase because it describes our clients more honestly than any diagnosis or demographic category could. A thoughtful adult isn't defined by age, profession, income, or how serious their struggle appears from the outside. It's someone who is self-aware enough to recognize that something needs to change, curious enough to want to understand why — not just fix the surface — and willing to do the real work of looking inward, even when that's uncomfortable.

Our clients are often the ones holding everything together for everyone else. They're functioning — showing up for work, for family, for their responsibilities — and they're also tired, carrying more than they let on, and ready for something deeper than coping strategies. They want to understand themselves more fully. They're not looking for a quick fix. They're looking for lasting change.

If that sounds like you — you're exactly who we had in mind.

THE COUNSELING PROCESS

Do you offer couple’s counseling?2026-05-03T00:12:25+00:00

Yes. We work with couples navigating communication challenges, conflict patterns, intimacy, trust, life transitions, and more. Couples sessions typically follow the same 50-minute format and are most often held weekly or biweekly, depending on where you are in the process.

Couples work at WCCW is relational and systems-oriented — we look at the patterns between partners, not just the behaviors of each individual, and work toward building something more intentional together.

What if I don’t feel like therapy is working?2026-05-03T00:11:16+00:00

That's an important conversation to have — and we genuinely want you to have it with your therapist directly. Progress in therapy isn't always linear, and sometimes a session (or even a stretch of sessions) can feel stuck or uncertain before something shifts.

If the approach isn't resonating, or if you feel the relationship isn't the right fit, please say so. We will always support you in finding the right path forward, even if that means a different therapist or a different approach. The therapeutic relationship only works when it's honest.

How long will I be in therapy?2026-05-03T00:09:44+00:00

This varies significantly from person to person, and there's no single right answer. Some clients work through a specific concern in a few months; others find that longer-term therapy supports deeper, more lasting change across multiple areas of life.

At WCCW, we're oriented toward lasting change rather than surface-level symptom management — which means we won't rush the process, but we also won't keep you longer than is genuinely useful. Your therapist will check in with you regularly about how things are going and whether the work feels valuable.

How often will I need to come to therapy?2026-05-03T00:08:46+00:00

Most clients begin with weekly sessions, which allows for consistency and momentum early in the therapeutic process. As you make progress, the frequency may naturally shift to biweekly or monthly — always guided by your needs and goals, not a fixed timeline.

There's no predetermined endpoint. Therapy moves at the pace that feels safe and sustainable for you.
How long does a session last?2026-05-03T00:08:02+00:00

Individual and couples sessions are typically 50 minutes. This is a standard clinical hour and gives your therapist time to prepare notes and thoughtfully transition between clients — which ultimately supports the quality of your care.

TELEHEALTH & SCHEDULING

What can I expect in telehealth (virtual) therapy?2026-05-03T02:11:38+00:00

At Wholistic Care Counseling & Wellness, all sessions are conducted virtually through a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform — so you can receive meaningful support from wherever you feel safest. At this time, the sessions can be accessed via your Therapy Notes client portal by email reminder, direct from our website, or on the new Therapy Notes app.

It's natural to wonder if telehealth can feel as real or effective as sitting across from someone. Your therapist will show up with the same presence and care — camera on, distractions minimized, and fully focused on you.

To get the most from your session, find a quiet, private space where you won't be interrupted. Use headphones, silence your phone, and connect to a strong, stable internet connection ahead of time. If a tech hiccup happens, and it will at some point, don't worry — your therapist will troubleshoot alongside you.

We're here — from a distance, but still right beside you.

What if I need to reach my therapist between sessions?2026-05-03T00:21:57+00:00

For non-urgent questions or scheduling matters, you can reach us through our client portal or by contacting the practice directly. Your therapists goal is to follow up within two business days.

Please note that therapists are not available for crisis support between sessions. If you are experiencing a mental health emergency, please contact the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (call or text 988), go to your nearest emergency room, or call 911.

If you're in crisis between sessions, please don't wait — 988 is available 24/7, free, and confidential.
What is your cancellation policy?2026-05-03T00:20:30+00:00

We ask that you provide at least 24 hours' notice if you need to cancel or reschedule a session. Late cancellations and no-shows may be subject to a fee, as that time has been reserved specifically for you.

We understand that life happens — if something unexpected comes up, please reach out as soon as possible and we'll do our best to work with you.

How do I schedule an appointment?2026-05-03T00:19:40+00:00

The easiest first step is to request a free 15-minute consultation through our website or by reaching out directly. From there, your therapist will work with you to find a regular time that fits your schedule.

We aim to respond to all new inquiries within 2 business days.

If you know you are ready to schedule you can message us through our contact us page or call 361-500-0138.

Do you offer telehealth sessions?2026-05-03T00:17:32+00:00

Yes. At WCCW, all sessions are conducted virtually via telehealth — and the research backs up why that works. Studies consistently show that telehealth therapy produces outcomes comparable to in-person care across a wide range of concerns, including, but not limited to anxiety, depression, and trauma.

For our clients, virtual sessions remove real-world barriers — no commute, no waiting room, no need to rearrange your day. Whether you're navigating a packed schedule, managing chronic illness or mobility challenges, or simply live outside the Corpus Christi area, telehealth meets you where you are. For many clients, the familiar environment of home can actually support deeper nervous system safety during sessions.

Sessions are conducted through a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform. All you need is a private space and a reliable internet connection.

Telehealth services are available to anyone located in Texas.

OUR APPROACH

What can I expect from a Licensed Professional Counselor?2026-05-03T19:03:06+00:00

Your counselor is a licensed professional with advanced training and over 3,000 hours of supervised experience. They’re guided by the ethical standards of the Texas State Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors to ensure your care is always safe, respectful, and grounded in integrity.

You’ll be met with dignity and compassion throughout your journey here.

Is therapy goal-oriented or more open ended?2026-05-03T00:27:16+00:00

Both, depending on what you need. Some clients come in with a specific goal — working through a difficult transition, improving their relationship, or managing anxiety at work. Others are drawn more by a general sense that something needs to shift, without a defined endpoint in mind.

We work collaboratively to clarify what meaningful progress looks like for you, and we revisit that regularly. The goal is always lasting, genuine change — not checking boxes.

You set the direction. We help you find the path.
What issues do you commonly work with?2026-05-03T00:26:30+00:00

Our therapists work with a wide range of concerns, including anxiety and stress, depression, trauma and PTSD, relationship and communication challenges, grief and loss, life transitions, identity and self-worth, burnout, attachment patterns, and family-of-origin work.

If you're unsure whether what you're experiencing is something we address, please reach out. We're happy to have that conversation during your free consultation.

Do you specialize in trauma?2026-05-03T00:25:42+00:00

Yes. Trauma-informed care is foundational to everything we do at WCCW — not just for clients with explicit trauma histories, but as a lens for understanding how past experiences shape present patterns across all areas of life.

We recognize that trauma lives in the body as much as in the mind, which is why our work integrates nervous system awareness and somatic processing alongside cognitive and relational approaches. You don't have to have experienced a major traumatic event to benefit from trauma-informed care.

What therapeutic approaches do you use?2026-05-03T00:24:55+00:00

Our therapists draw from a range of evidence-based approaches, integrated based on what each client needs. These include nervous system and somatic awareness work, cognitive-behavioral approaches, pattern and cycle recognition, identity and meaning exploration, and relational and attachment-informed therapy.

We don't subscribe to a single rigid method. Instead, we bring clinical expertise and genuine curiosity to each person — meeting you where you are and adapting as the work deepens.

What makes WCCW different from other therapy practices?2026-05-03T00:23:43+00:00

We take a whole-person approach that goes beyond symptom management. Rather than asking "what's wrong with you?" we start with "what experiences have shaped the way your mind, body, and relationships respond today?" That shift in framing changes everything about how we work.

Our framework integrates five interconnected domains: your nervous system and biology, somatic and body awareness, psychology and thought patterns, identity and values, and your relational world. We don't treat these separately — we see them as part of one coherent system, and that's how we work with them.

CONFIDENTIALITY & PRIVACY

How are my records stored and protected?2026-05-03T00:33:30+00:00

All client records are stored securely in a HIPAA-compliant electronic health record system. Your session notes, intake forms, and any personal information are protected by both legal requirements and our own commitment to your privacy.

We never share, sell, or use your information for any purpose other than providing you with care.

Can my therapist talk to my doctor or other providers?2026-05-03T00:32:30+00:00

Only with your explicit written consent. Coordinating care with a primary care physician, psychiatrist, or another provider can sometimes be genuinely helpful — but that communication will never happen without your knowledge and permission.

If you'd like your therapist to collaborate with another provider in your life, we'll walk you through the simple consent process to make that happen.

Will my insurance company have access to my records?2026-05-03T00:31:29+00:00

When you use insurance to pay for therapy, your insurance company receives a diagnosis code and basic billing information as part of the claims process. However, insurance companies may also request access to clinical records in certain circumstances — such as when reviewing benefits, determining medical necessity, or auditing previously processed claims (sometimes called a clawback) — and we are often required to comply.

If complete privacy matters to you, private pay (self-pay) is an option worth considering. Choosing self-pay keeps your records entirely outside of any insurance system — no diagnosis required, no third-party access, and no risk of benefit reviews affecting your care. We're happy to talk through both options during your consultation so you can make the decision that's right for you.

Are there exceptions to confidentiality?2026-05-03T00:28:50+00:00

There are a small number of legally mandated exceptions. Your therapist is required to break confidentiality in the following situations:

Imminent risk of harm — if you disclose a credible intention to harm yourself or another person, your therapist is required to take steps to ensure safety.
Child or elder abuse — therapists are mandated reporters in Texas. If there is reasonable cause to suspect abuse or neglect of a child or vulnerable adult, it must be reported.
Court order — in rare circumstances, a court may legally compel the release of records.

Your therapist will review these exceptions with you during your first session and answer any questions you have. Transparency about these limits is part of informed consent.

Is what I share in therapy confidential?2026-05-03T00:28:05+00:00

Yes. Confidentiality is one of the foundations of therapy, and we take it seriously. Everything you share in your sessions is protected by law under HIPAA (the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) and professional ethical standards.

Your information will never be shared with anyone — including family members, employers, or other providers — without your written consent.

Still have questions? We'd love to talk it through.
