My journey handling my mental health, with the help of Kayla Burrow, can best be described in one word- safe. I can’t even begin to describe how much my life has changed since beginning therapy in April and where I am today. I was the type of person that suffered from anxiety and stress due to unrealistic expectations I would set on myself and those around me. I was cold, stoic, and dismissive to others. But above all of that, I was alone. When I first started my therapy sessions with Kayla, I was a bit hesitant to let my guard down because I thought I would be judged or looked at as a weak person. I’ll admit, it took me a few sessions to open up and begin speaking about how I felt on certain situations and experiences I been through. However, Kayla never once rushed me and allowed me to go at my pace; opening up about topics when I was ready to discuss them. As months went on, I found myself being the one initiating the conversations in my therapy sessions and that is due to the guidance and counseling Kayla provided me. In the best way possible, I will say this... Kayla is dedicated to improved mental health and that is evident in the work that she does. She listens to understand me as a person and not just listens to respond. She takes pieces of information I provide in our counseling sessions and helps me connect the dots when I have a difficult time doing so. She never pressures me talk about uncomfortable situations I am not ready to speak about. Sometimes this step is missed by many Mental Health Counselors as they want to get straight to the root cause, however Kayla treats me like a person and understands when topics may be too heavy at the moment. Am I 100% better now? No. But, am I better than I was a few months back? Without a doubt. For anyone seeking mental health counseling I will say this, mental health is a lifelong journey. One of the most unpredictable yet rewarding journeys we will ever be on- you just have to commit. And if you’re anything like me, then Kayla Burrow will be the right choice for you.
